Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - Flora and Fauna

Yippie! It's another week of fun for Simon Says Stamp's Monday Challenge. This week our challenge is Flora and Fauna. You can pop over to the Monday Challenge Blog to see all the amazing inspiration from all the design team members and don't forget to check out, Aida, our guest designer this month. She's awesome! Check out her blog Aida Haron - Life and Paper Crafting and be amazed.

I started by cutting my background pieces out of a couple of Tim Holtz Menagerie 8x8 card stock. I also die cut the standing deer from Sizzix Reindeer Flight.

I distressed the edges of the music sheet card stock piece with the Prima Distressing Tool.

I sewed the music sheet card stock onto my main background piece with brown thread in a curvy design around the outside edge.

My two pieces are now sewn together and I'm ready to complete my background.

I begin adding layers of stencils and stamps in various colors of distress ink starting with the Tim Holtz Stripes stencil and ink that on with Evergreen Bough Distress Ink.

I smudged Walnut Stain Distress Ink onto my craft sheet and added some water to make the ink more fluid. I then dipped the top of a salt shaker into the ink and added that to my background in random areas.

I thin some Evergreen Bough Distress Paint with water and splatter that onto my background with a Distress Splatter Brush by flicking the bristles over the background.

I do the same with Antiqued Bronze Distress Paint.

I add some vertical and horizontal thin lines by sliding the edge of a gift card in Black Soot Distress Paint that has been thinned with water. I also dipped the cap of the distress paint in the same paint mixture and added that to the background as well. I also added some numbers from the Tim Holtz Perspective stamp set in Fossilized Amber Distress Ink.

I die cut Tim Holtz Bird Branch out of chip board and cut off the bird. I inked the entire branch with Ground Espresso Distress Ink by pouncing the ink on with a mini blending tool.

Because I am going to use this as a tree instead of a branch, I cut off the lower hanging branch and attach that to the other side of the piece to form a branch.

After attaching the branch to the other side of the "tree", I ink the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink.

I ink my standing reindeer with Ground Espresso Distress Ink . I then stamp on one of the images from the IndigoBlu Tasty Texture stamp set with Black Soot Distress Ink to add depth to the reindeer. I also edge the outside of the reindeer with the black soot ink.

I cut several flowers and leaves for my project from the Tim Holtz Tiny Tattered Floral die set out of various shades of card stock from the Core-dinations Nostalgic Collection. This card stock is not double sided so it was important to me to color the back side of the card stock with coordinating colors of distress ink.

I use the Tim Holtz Sanding Block Tool to distress the edges of all the flowers before forming them.

After forming the flowers, I placed all my pieces onto the background and attached the flowers with a hot glue gun. All the other pieces were attached using Ranger Multi Matte Medium. I used some of the flower petals as leaves on my tree and added a light dusting of Prima Gold Rush Glass Glitter on various edges around the border of my background. My sentiment is from the Tim Holtz  Small Talk sticker set. I cut two different sentiments and combined words I wanted to use.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put together my flora and fauna mixed media panel and that you join us this week for a chance to win a $50 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp. I can't wait to see what you create!

    1. Hi Alexa. You're right, it would be a very large card but it's actually a mixed media panel. I enjoy making panels as small art pieces. I love making cards too but most of the time my cards are more clean and simple and smaller. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave your sweet comment. I really appreciate it!
