Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - Show Us Your Metal

Hi Everyone! I'm so glad you stopped by. It's time for another week of awesomeness over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog where this week's theme is, "Show Us Your Metal".

I hope you join us this week and maybe go outside your comfort zone a little like I did and, "Show Us Your Metal".

This was a fun challenge for me and I decided to go a little Sci/Fi, a little Steampunk on this one. My son said it was "creepy" which didn't make me too happy, but I stuck with my original idea.

I created a base canvas for my metal piece. I'll show you the steps of how I put this together below.

For my metal background, I cut  a Sizzix Cameo Frame from white chipboard and also from a Ranger Foil Tape Sheet. I embossed the foil tape sheet with the Tim Holtz Dotted Bullseye texture fade embossing folder and after peeling off the backing, adhered that to the chipboard piece.

I applied Black Soot Distress Paint over the embossed foil sheet and wiped away the excess with a cloth. I then went over the edges with the same paint. I set that aside to completely dry.

For my base piece, I cut a 5-1/2" x 5-3/4" panel out of white chipboard and rounded the edges with a We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper. I used the 1/2" corner.

I applied Dylusions Paint with a Ranger Brayer. I used a plastic spoon to scoop out a tiny bit of paint from the jar and placed that onto my craft mat. (A little paint goes a long, long way, so don't scoop out too much.) I loaded my brayer with paint and rolled it onto the chipboard in random directions. Below you will see how I added each color.

I continue to add layers until I'm happy with how it looks.

I'm happy with the this and stop adding layers.

Next, I stenciled on some gears with a Tim Holtz Gears stencil with Jet Black Archival Ink using a Ranger Round Mini Ink Blending Tool.

I added some stamping from both of the background stamps from the Tim Holtz Halftone & Rings Stamp Set in Orange Blossom and Cactus Flower Archival Inks.

I wanted to add some metal flowers to my piece so I used two sets. The first set is from the Prima Mini Flower Sunrise Sunset Collection and the second is from the Prima Roses Sunrise Sunset Collection. I painted the flowers with Black Soot Distress Paint. I applied the paint in a thick coat and let that sit for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. I then wiped away the excess with a cloth.

After the black paint on the flowers is completely dry, I added coordinating colors to the flowers in Festive Berries, Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade Distress Paint. I used the same process as I did with the Black Soot paint by allowing the paint to stay on the flower for 30 seconds to 1 minute and then wiped away the excess.

I went through my metal stash and put together a Steampunk type bird. To create my steampunk bird I used several different Tim Holtz Idea-ology metal pieces. A few other Prima metal pieces and sprayed the entire metal section with Prima Tangerine and Sorbet Bloom Sprays. I added some Prima Gold Rush Glass Glitter. I also dripped some Lucky Clover Distress Spray Stain over my flowers to get some contrasting color on my piece. This completes my project. I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put together my "Show Us Your Metal" canvas.

I can't wait to see what you create and remember you could win a $50 gift voucher just for entering.

  2. The sentiment is perfect for this creation! Creepy good! That dotted bull's eye texture is outstanding. I am reminded of a gas mask on the clock face. You pulled everything together so well--the colors, the glass glitter, etc. Love it!
